Architectural Values Of Tanean Lanjheng For Reconstructing Indigenous Leadership Based On Madurese Local Wisdom

Abstract

Tanean Lanjheng is a traditional Madurese settlement that not only represents physical spatial planning but also contains social, kinship, and communal values that play a role in shaping the relationship patterns and leadership practices of the community. This article aims to analyze the values internalized in Tanean Lanjheng architecture and explain their relevance as a conceptual basis in the formation of an indigenous leadership model based on Madurese local wisdom. This research uses a qualitative approach through literature studies of books, journal articles, and ethnographic studies that discuss the culture and social systems of Madurese society. The analysis focuses on spatial patterns, genealogical relationships, deliberation mechanisms, and the management of authority and conflict in the Tanean Lanjheng system . The results of the study indicate that Tanean Lanjheng architecture reflects the values of togetherness, moral hierarchy, exemplary leadership, and social responsibility carried out collectively. These values shape the characteristics of an indigenous leadership model that emphasizes customary legitimacy, participatory decision-making, and community-based social control. This article concludes that the architectural values of Tanean Lanjheng has the potential to serve as a conceptual framework in developing a leadership and management model based on Indonesian local wisdom, particularly in the context of communal leadership and custom-based organizations.
